Australian Made Motorcycle Jamboree

Australian Made Motorcycle Jamboree – Saturday 24th September 2016 – Moseley Square at Glenelg.

Anyone with an Australian Made Motorcycle is most welcome to enter your motorcycle at this event – no cost- just enjoy the experience

Australia once had a thriving manufacturing industry which included both motorcycles and sidecars and the inaugural Australian Motorcycle Jamboree is to be held 24th September 2016 at Moseley Square Glenelg by the Veteran and Vintage Motorcycle Club of SA to celebrate that history.

It will take the form of a display of Australian made motorcycles and sidecars and SA made bicycles will not be turned away. We are looking to have Bullock, Lewis, Elliott Payneham and other lesser known brands representing the South Australian manufacturers from the early period up to 1930 as well as some interstate brands. From the middle period it is hoped that Waratahs, Acmes and Malvern Star autocycles will leave a blue haze down Jetty Road if their owners ride them to the event. Finally from the post war period it is hoped that there will be the biggest gathering of Tilbrook motorcycles since they left the factory at Kensington in the 1950s.

It is hoped that Goulding sidecars from the 20s will be there along with Dusting and the later Tilbrook sidecar outfits from the post war period.

I am hopeful that we can gather between 50 and 60 Australian made motorcycles and sidecars together in the one spot to celebrate a significant part of Australian manufacturing history. The event is to be conducted with as much informality as possible but it will be necessary to register your interest to ensure that a place in the display is reserved for your machine and or sidecar outfit. The only rule is that it has to have come from an Aussie manufacturer.

The condition of your bike or sidecar is also not that important as the public like to see real used motorcycles in the condition they were used and indeed that is part of their charm and originality. Restoration projects may also be possible as this really does show what old bike enthusiasts can do in their spare time. If you have more than one Australian bike or sidecar see whether you can bring multiple exhibits or have a mate bring one.

The plan is that the bikes and sidecars will start arriving at Moseley Square at 12 noon and be in place by 12.30pm and the display will end at 4pm with the site cleanup finished by 4;30pm. It is hoped that some parking will be allocated made available for cars and trailers.

The date is the 24th September which is the day before the Bay to Birdwood Run and the day after the finish of the 60th Anniversary Run held by the VVMCCSA hence we are hoping interstate bikes may remain for the display and it seems an ideal opportunity to bring together the Australian made motorcycles and sidecars which are all part of our motorcycling past. Tell your friends if you know they have Australian made motorcycles.

Planning is well advanced and registrations from participants will be received from 13 August 2016. If your bike or outfit is not registered there may not be a place so mark it in the diary now. There is plenty to occupy the family and the kids at Glenelg and let them make a day of it while you chew the fat with your fellow enthusiasts, food and drink is easily available in adjacent shops and hopefully the public will be educated as to what a great industry we had here for 50years.
