Arthur Grady Day

  • 09 May 2015
  • 10:00 AM
  • Fremantle

The 2015 Arthur Grady day will take place on Saturday May 9 2015.

Originally run to celebrate the fests of Arthur Grady a Fremantle bicycle maker who became the first person to ride a motorcycle around Australia. The event has grown into a fantastic celebration of all things vintage.

Last year saw displays not only of fine vintage motorcycles, but also vintage bicycles, trucks, machinery, buses, tools cars and prams. Right in the centre of Fremantle.

As with last year the road will be closed around the Town Hall and the street will be filled with displays.

Please note - the Indian Harley Club (Bunbury) Inc. has no involvement with the organisation or running of this event but as an advertised club event members are welcome to attend and ride concessionally licenced bikes.

here is some info for the upcoming Arthur Grady Day. Planning is well underway and there is strong interest form many clubs and organisations as well as the general public. New editions to the ever growing list of clubs this year will see The morsecodian fraternity, wireless and gramophone club, the vintage telephone club and the Special Interest Vehicle Club of WA joining the ranks. This along with all the bikes, cycles, trucks, busses, traction engine, tools and entertainment.

So we would love to see your club represented on the day.

George Stevenson, will again be at the centre of the day with his excellent display of memorabilia and his replica of Arthurs Bike. It would be great to support him with a big turnout of veteran machinery. The City of Fremantle has reserved the area around the town hall clock to facilitate this part of the display so there is plenty of room for the veterans.

While the veterans are central to this day, it is also a day to celebrate all vintage and classic motorcycles so as in previous years we encourage all club members to bring/ride their bikes down to Freo for the day. ( I might even have my Sloper ready by then as well)

The Running order of the Day will be as follows:

The Display in the Square

07:00 – 09:00 - Square open for arrival of bikes and trailers – Please enter from the roundabout at the intersection of High and Queen Street (by the old Myer building)

09:00 - 10:00 - All vehicles and trailers not for display removed from kings Square

10:00 - 14:00 - event in progress no un-necessary vehicle movements ( BBQ available run by Freo Men’s Shed )

14:00 - event ends trailers permitted to enter the square for pack up.

The Ride

Some Clubs are organising their own club runs to meet at Kings Square, so, can you please let me know and I can reserve a space for your club to be together. However, if you prefer you can join in a multi club run from Hillton Park Bowling Club.

Bikes can meet at the Hilton Park bowling club for the organised ride into Fremantle. This is an ideal opportunity to take older bikes for a short run. There is plenty of Trailer parking available at the club so take advantage of it!

08:00 - Gates at the Bowling Club open.

08:30 - BBQ run by the Post 70’s section of the VMCCWA ( by donation) so you don’t need to worry about missing breakfast!

09:30 – Ride to Fremantle (route to be confirmed)

10:00 – Arrive Kings Square

14:00 – depart Kings Square. (make your own way. No organised return ride)

14:30 – informal gathering at Hilton Park Bowling Club for refreshments at the bar and discussions about what “fun we all had”
